The Jesus Lizard have announced ‘Rack’, their first new album in 26 years, and shared a run of new tour dates for the UK and the US. Find ticket details below, as well as the new lead single ‘Hide & Seek’.

Set for release on September 13 via Ipecac Records, the project marks the first new album from the classic line-up – comprised of singer David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, drummer Mac McNeilly, and bassist David Wm. Sims – in over a quarter of a century.

It is their seventh album overall, and the follow-up to the 1998 LP ‘Blue’. It also arrives after the members disbanded in 1999, although they have staged a couple of reunion tours in the time since.

Ahead of the release of the full LP, the band have dropped the lead single and opening track ‘Hide & Seek’. The song, as well as the 10 others that feature on the tracklist, was recorded with producer Paul Allen at the Audio Eagle Studio in Nashville.

In a new statement, Yow described the single as “a perky ditty about a witch who can’t behave, and it’s got nearly as many hooks as a Mike Tyson fight” (via Rolling Stone). Check it out below, as well as the music video which shows all four members in a recording studio.

As for the full album, the project continues the band’s longtime trend of using four-letter titles, and follows on from earlier releases like ‘Goat’, ‘Liar’, ‘Shot’ and ‘Blue’.

Talking with The New York Times ahead of the announcement, the band described the project as “astonishing”, and confirmed that while it does have nods to their earlier discography, it aims to build from there.

“There are definitely some references to the past, but it’s more as a point of departure: We don’t stay there,” Denison said. Find the artwork and tracklist below, and visit here to pre-order.

The ‘Rack’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Hide & Seek’
2. ‘Armistice Day’
3. ‘Grind’
4. ‘What If?’
5. ‘Lord Godiva’
6. ‘Alexis Feels Sick’
7. ‘Falling Down’
8. ‘Dunning Kruger’
9. ‘Moto(R)’
10. ‘Is That Your Hand?’
11. ‘Swan The Dog’

To celebrate the news of new material, the band have also laid out some touring plans, which will see them perform across the UK and the US over the next few months.

The dates kick off tonight (June 6) with a show at Third Man Records in Nashville, and continue with shows at No Values in Pomona and Garden amp in Garden Grove on June 8 and 9 respectively.

From there, they’ll perform at the Hopscotch Music Festival on September 7, before continuing with US shows across the country until the end of the year. These include gigs in Dallas, Brooklyn, Boston and Atlanta.

In January 2025 the members will head across the pond for a UK leg of the tour. These launch with an opening night in Glasgow on January 7, followed by shows in Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, London and more.

They’ll head stateside once again in May for a final run of US shows. Find a full list of tour dates below and visit here for US tickets and here for UK tickets.
